South Africa may ask Putin not to attend BRICS summit in order not to arrest him – lawyer Busol
Lawyer Kateryna Busol believes that South Africa will try to persuade Putin not to come to the BRICS summit in August
She expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"If Putin travels to a country that is a signatory to the Rome Statute and is not arrested there, it will have certain consequences. The country that does not comply with the decision of the International Criminal Court will be pressured diplomatically or other methods of pressure will be used. However, there will be no deployment of troops or other radical actions," the lawyer explained.
She also said that history has seen cases of non-compliance with ICC decisions by a country that has signed the Rome Statute
"I believe that South Africa will ask Putin not to come to the BRICS summit in August. After all, they will not want to comply with the ICC's decision and arrest Putin. Perhaps the Russian side will not want to do this either. However, so far, unfortunately, there have been cases of non-compliance with ICC arrest warrants," she added.
