Slovak Foreign Minister changes his mind: Bratislava supports opening negotiations with Ukraine on EU accession
Bratislava is ready to support the decision to open EU accession talks with Ukraine at the December summit
This was stated by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár, the ministry's press service reports.
"Having assessed the reform efforts in Kyiv, we are ready to support the opening of accession talks, which will be discussed at the upcoming European Council meeting. However, our eastern neighbor still has a long and thorny path ahead of it, and all the necessary measures need to be not only approved, but also implemented and monitored," Blanar said.
At the same time, he emphasized the need to "focus more on finding solutions for a peaceful settlement."
The minister also reiterated the position of the new government in Bratislava that Slovakia does not plan to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
"At the same time, we will continue to provide humanitarian support to Ukraine, in particular in the area of mine clearance and preparation of energy infrastructure for the winter, and we have already taken concrete steps in this regard," the Slovak Foreign Minister said.
