Shmyhal estimates Ukraine's recovery at USD 600-750 billion
Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal says that Ukraine's recovery needs may exceed USD 600-750 billion. In June 2022, the World Bank’s estimates were about USD 350 billion
This was reported by the government portal of Ukraine.
“When we talk about recovery, we are not only thinking about the distant future. Reconstruction should begin now. The lives and health of millions of people depend on it,” Shmyhal emphasized.
According to him, five priorities have been identified for financing rapid reconstruction.
The first is energy, as more than 400 power and heat supply facilities have been damaged as a result of Russian attacks. The second is housing, as 150,000 homes in Ukraine have been damaged or destroyed.
The third priority, he said, is humanitarian demining, as more than 30% of Ukraine's territory is contaminated with Russian shells.
The fourth priority is critical and social infrastructure: roads, bridges, utilities, water, heat and gas supply networks, schools and hospitals.
The fifth priority is to help the private sector.
Shmyhal emphasized that the restoration requires, among other things, confiscated Russian assets. It will also include funds from the state budget, international partners and donors on the United24 platform.
