Sexual violence in war: Ukraine's Prosecutor General discusses cooperation on investigation with UN

Ukraine's Prosecutor General, Andrii Kostin, has held an online meeting with Pramila Patten, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General on Sexual Violence in Conflicts.

The Prosecutor General's Office reported this on Telegram.

The meeting participants discussed cooperation and expert support in the investigation of sexual violence committed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Andrii Kostin told the representative of the UN Secretary General about the development of the concept of comprehensive protection of victims of sexual violence in the conditions of armed conflict.

"The best Ukrainian and international experts, in particular the team of the UN special representative, are actively working on practical recommendations to ensure the rehabilitation of victims and prevent re-victimization. The implementation of the Concept will allow to identify crimes and respond effectively to cases of sexual violence", it is noted. 

Pramila Patten assured that her office and she personally are ready to continue active work, in particular directly in Ukraine.

Kostin and Patten also discussed the possibility of the UN special representative's team participating in an interagency working group with a wide range of international experts and representatives of non-governmental public organizations, designed to speed up the coordination of expert assistance in the investigation of sexual violence.
