Seven teens injured as ‘butterfly mine’ detonates in Kharkiv region
On the evening of February 3, seven teenagers were injured as a result of detonation of a high-explosive anti-personnel mine in Kharkiv region
Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Synyehubov, reports.
Incident happened around 8:00 p.m. in Izium. 3 boys and 4 girls, aged 14-17, found a fragment of anti-personnel mine known as ‘butterfly mine’ or ‘green parrot’. One of the teenagers picked it up from the ground and threw next to the others. The mine detonated.
All children received shrapnel wounds. Now their condition is satisfactory, but five of them were hospitalized in the Izium hospital. Currently, there is no threat to their lives.
"Once again, I remind you of the high mine danger in the de-occupied territories of the Kharkiv region. If you find suspicious objects, you should not touch them under any circumstances. This is very dangerous. It is necessary to immediately notify specialists of the State Emergency Service or police about such a find," Synyehubov wrote.
