Separate motorized rifle brigade to strengthen Russia in war with Ukraine is being formed in Stavropol Krai – General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces' General Staff reported this on May 12.

A separate motorized rifle brigade, which is being formed in the Stavropol region of the Russian Federation, will be sent to Ukraine to compensate for the losses.

“In addition to replenishing units that have suffered manpower losses, the enemy is also forming new units. The vast majority of those who signed the contract are not motivated to participate in combat operations, while the invaders are seeking to make money,” the General Staff reports. 

Frontline situation

During the day, Russia launched 4 missile strikes, 26 airstrikes, and over 20 MLRS attacks. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged.

The enemy again used S-300 air defense systems to launch missile strikes on Kramatorsk and Zaporizhzhia.

The likelihood of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high, as the enemy continues to use terror tactics.

Invading Russian forces are attacking in the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka directions. In total, they launched 36 assaults in these areas over the last day, with Bakhmut and Marinka remaining in the epicenter of combat.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. 

At the same time, Russian forces keep shelling the entire border line with mortars and artillery: one settlement in the Sumy region, as well as 10 more in the Kharkiv region were attacked. 

Shelling of Ukrainian regions

• In the Kupiansk direction, 10 settlements of the Kharkiv and Luhansk direction came under artillery shelling. 

• In the Lyman direction, 4 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk directions came under enemy fire. 

• In the Bakhmut direction, fighting continues for the fortress city. 12 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked by the invading Russian forces. 

• In the Avdiivka direction, 6 settlements of the Donetsk region came under enemy fire. 

• In the Marinka direction, 5 settlements of the Donetsk region were shelled. 

• In the Shakhtarsk direction, the occupying Russian troops attacked 6 settlements of the Donetsk region. 

• In the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, over 17 towns and villages were subjected to numerous attacks by the Russian army. 

Ukrainian Armed Forces' strikes on Russian troops:

The Ukrainian Defense Forces' aviation launched 4 strikes on the occupying Russian troops' military positions. 

Missile and artillery units hit 3 manpower concentration areas, 3 artillery units at firing positions, and an enemy electronic warfare (EW) station.
