Second group of Ukrainian troops completes training on Patriot in Germany
On Friday, 1 December, a second group of Ukrainian servicemen was trained to operate the Patriot air defence system at a Luftwaffe air force base in Germany
This was announced by the commander of the Multinational Training Command, Lieutenant General Andreas Marlow, Deutsche Welle reports.
About 70 soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine took the course, which lasted more than six weeks. As reported by the Bundeswehr, from now on, the Ukrainian military will be able to work with this complex independently.
The German general stressed that the protection of Ukraine's airspace is a top priority, as Russian strikes are deliberately destroying civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. According to him, the exercises have reached a level of personnel competence that allows Ukrainians to work independently with the air defence systems and perform air defence tasks.
Marlow also said that experienced Ukrainian military personnel took part in the exercise, with years of service in air defence units and experience with Soviet S-300 air defence systems.
"All of them have combat experience and have previously served in air defence. Our course ends with a two-day exercise, at the end of which we recall everything we have learnt," said the German instructor.
At the same time, one of the Ukrainian officers who took part in the training admitted that the Patriot system is quite a complex system. "We are ready," one of the participants assured, although he admitted that some aspects of the training would continue.
- In February, the Ukrainian military arrived in Germany to learn how to operate the Patriot air defence system.
- In April, Germany handed over the first Patriot system with missiles and special vehicles to Ukraine.
