Scholz accuses Russia of lying about Nord Stream turbine
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz says Russia is deliberately delaying the return of the repaired Siemens turbine to provide an excuse to not fully restore the gas supply through the Nord Stream pipeline.
DW shared the statement.
According to Scholz, there are no technical reasons for reducing the supply of Russian gas to Germany. The Chancellor of Germany said this on August 3 after inspecting the turbine, which underwent maintenance in Canada and has been at the Siemens Energy plant in Mülheim an der Ruhr since mid-July.
Scholz accused Moscow of delaying the return to the Russian Federation of the gas turbine, which can be transported to Russia at any time, since the EU has not adopted sanctions on Russian gas and there are no grounds to prohibit its transportation.
According to the chairman of Siemens Energy, Christian Bruch, one turbine is currently operating at the Nord Stream compressor station, and five are needed to fully load the gas turbine. He added that only a relevant application from Gazprom is needed to transport the turbine to the Russian Federation.
In turn, Scholz advised Germany to prepare for further problems with the supply of Russian gas, even if the turbine is transported to Russia.
In June, Gazprom sharply reduced gas pumping through the Nord Stream and attributed it to the untimely return of the Siemens turbine after repairs in Canada.
