CNN reported the information, citing an unnamed official of the US Treasury Department.
The new sanctions will be a response to the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny and will be imposed on the eve of the second anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Speaking on February 20, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said that the new measures would be a "substantial package" that would cover a wide range of elements related to Russia's military-industrial base and the sources of revenue for the Russian economy that feed the country's "war machine."
The White House said it plans to introduce a large package of sanctions against Russia at the end of this week. It will include, among other things, the defense industry and sources of revenue for the Russian economy.
