U.S. imposes sanctions on entities illegally shipping Russian gas
The U.S. State Department has imposed sanctions on companies and ships that are illegally trying to move gas from the sanctioned Russian Arctic LNG 2 project
The U.S. State Department reported the information.
“In response to Russia’s continued war of aggression against Ukraine, the United States is imposing further costs on those supporting Russia’s war effort and attempting to expand Russia’s global energy leverage,” the statement says.
The State Department imposes restrictions on two entities and two vessels related to attempts to export liquefied natural gas from the Arctic LNG 2 project, which is already under U.S. sanctions.
Penalties were imposed on Gotik Energy Shipping Co (Gotik) and Plio Energy Cargo Shipping OPC PVT LTD (Plio Energy). They, respectively, as the owner and commercial manager, operate the New Energy gas transportation vessel, which delivered gas from the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project in a deceptive manner. In particular, the New Energy vessel turned off the automatic identification system to illegally load gas.
In addition, the United States imposes sanctions on the Mulan gas transportation vessel operated by Plio Energy.
“The U.S. government will continue to answer attempts to operationalize the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project or otherwise expand Russia’s energy capabilities with a swift response,” the statement says.
