Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó says that his country will not give up Russian energy sources despite the demand from U.S. President Donald Trump

He said this in an interview with The Guardian.

Donald Trump demanded that Europe stop importing Russian oil, which, he said, helps Moscow finance the war against Ukraine.

Szijjártó said that he "understands" Trump's approach, but rejected his demand.

"We can’t ensure the safe supply [of energy products] for our country without Russian oil or gas sources," he noted.

Responding to a question about pressure from Europe, Szijjártó called Western European officials "fanatics" and stated that it is absolutely impossible to have a rational dialogue with them based on facts and common sense.

But while relations with Brussels remain difficult, relations with the U.S. have improved significantly, Szijjártó added, stating that Hungary was the only European government that crossed its fingers for Trump's victory.

"The U.S. is a friend now. So having the American president as your friend is totally different compared to when they put pressure on you, regardless of what is coming from Brussels is very, very severe," added the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry.

  • “I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform last week.
