Bulgaria to halt Russian gas transit by 2026 — PM Zhelyazkov
Bulgaria will terminate contracts for the transit of Russian gas in 2026, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov announced during his speech at the UN General Assembly in New York
BNR reported the information.
"Regarding the call of President Donald Trump, voiced during the UN General Assembly session, we, as part of the European Union, will join the Union’s decisions to suspend, in the short term – by 2026 – contracts for the use or transit of Russian natural gas," Zhelyazkov noted.
He added that by 2028, Russian gas should be completely removed from the Bulgarian energy market.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister also pointed out that all natural gas consumption in the country, both for industry and households, is covered through imports of liquefied gas supplied via specialized terminals.
During his speech at the UN General Assembly, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that NATO countries purchasing Russian oil and gas must stop buying energy resources from the Russian Federation.
