Sanctions fatigue in Europe - Morawiecki

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki says EU countries are experiencing fatigue over anti-Russian sanctions. Despite this, a new package of restrictions may be adopted in the coming weeks

The Polish Prime Minister made the statement in an interview with RMF FM.

According to the prime minister, the topic of sanctions against Russia for the war in Ukraine should return to the agenda within 2 months. Although there is some fatigue with the sanctions policy in the EU.

"In fact, today there is much less appetite, much less appetite for further sanctions," Morawiecki said.

The prime minister noted that Poland is working to keep its allies willing to help Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.

"Material fatigue is already evident. Therefore, it is important for Poland to convince our partners that what is happening in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable, that we are living in a key historical moment as Europe and must respond accordingly. I am cautiously optimistic that we will be able to convince our partners of the next aid packages," he said.

Morawiecki also noted that his country is actively working to eliminate loopholes that allow Russia to circumvent certain restrictions.

"I'm also concerned that the restrictions that already exist are very often circumvented. In addition to the 11th package of sanctions, we should also talk about strengthening the existing packages. When I talk to diplomats in Brussels, sanctions circumvention is a kind of a substitute topic for the next packages," Morawiecki said.
