Sanctions against Russia are not even equal to sanctions against Iran - British politician Bryant

British Member of Parliament (MP) from the Labor Party Chris Bryant believes that the sanctions in place against Russia are not effective enough.

He expressed this opinion on the air of the "West Studio with Antin Borkovsky" program on the Espreso TV channel.

"First of all, despite Vladimir Putin's actions towards both the Russian and Ukrainian people, Russia guaranteed the territorial integrity of Ukraine within the framework of the Budapest Memorandum and broke its word. In fact, it is important that today all European signatory countries and NATO members are on the side of Ukraine. As for Great Britain, it doesn't matter who is in power - Labor or Conservatives, our position remains unchanged - we are with Ukraine," Bryant explained

The politician emphasized that sanctions against Russia should be more powerful and large-scale.

"I have been very critical of the British and other governments since 2014, because the invasion of Ukraine took place then, not this year. And if the invasion at that time was taken more seriously, with stricter sanctions, then perhaps Putin would not have developed ambitions of such scale. And yet we still haven't imposed enough sanctions on Russia. Current sanctions don't even match the sanctions on Iran, although they should undoubtedly be stronger. And yet, so many countries are still dependent on Russian gas and oil. Some countries like India are seizing the moment to cheapen gas and oil, and this must stop. Because such blatant piracy or banditry cannot be tolerated," he added.
