Saab to double NLAW production up to 400,000 units per year – Defense Express

In 2022, Saab, Swedish aerospace and defense company, has already doubled the production of NLAW anti-tank weapon, and plans to double it again within the next 2 years, which means turning the ATGM into a global bestseller

Defense Express reported the information.

Defense Express says that arms manufacturers have been extremely active in multiplying production, especially those that have proven to be really effective in combat. They add that the Swedish company Saab has announced that it will double the production of NLAW anti-tank missile systems to 400,000 units per year.

This will be the second production increase in recent times, as evidenced by the words of Saab CEO Micael Johansson.

"In the context of how we have doubled capacity from one year to the next at our Swedish sites…and by 2025 we will have doubled capacity again, then it will be possible to generate 400,000 units from our sites per year," Defense Express quoted the company's CEO as saying.

Given that data the analysts managed to estimate the company's production capacity before the Russian invasion, which amounted to approximately 100,000 NLAWs per year. In 2022, it was increased to 200,000 per year, and in the next 2 years it should reach 400,000 units.

Such an increase in production is certainly due to the fact that there is a huge demand for these weapons not only in the UK and Sweden, which have supplied NLAW to Ukraine, but also from other customers around the world.

At the same time, the Defense Express notes that the amount of 400,000 units means that NLAW will become a real bestseller on the market, since, as of 2021, the ATGM was in service in only 8 countries. And, most likely, Saab already has potential contracts for large batches with other countries.
