The spokesman for the Kyiv regional military administration, Mykhailo Shamanov, told Espreso TV that three people were wounded by debris as a result of the strike. Two of them are currently in hospital.
"This seems to be an effort to hit vital infrastructure and key decision-making centers," Shamanov added.
It was reported that debris struck the shopping center.
"Another firefighting team promptly arrived, addressing the aftermath of the fire. Preliminarily, no one was injured. The building's roof was damaged, rocket remnants were found indoors, and investigative and operational teams are at work," the report mentioned.
As of 7 a.m., the attack resulted in two fatalities and three injuries. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko commented on the fires in the Darnytskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. A 24-year-old woman, wounded by glass fragments, was taken to the hospital.
The Kyiv administration confirmed that two security guards lost their lives during the event. The deceased were 26 and 36 years old.
"This was a nighttime aerial strike. Kyiv hasn't seen an attack of this magnitude since spring. The adversary orchestrated a coordinated offensive using both drones and missiles," stated the Kyiv city military administration.
Serhiy Popko, the head of the administration, highlighted that the Russian side utilized attack drones and later launched missiles from Tu-95ms strategic aircraft. Overall, the air defense units successfully destroyed over 20 enemy targets.
It's also been observed that fragments from Russian missiles landed in the Kyiv region. The local police reported damage to private homes in one of the districts.
Furthermore, debris fell within a local cemetery, causing a fire that rescue teams promptly extinguished.
"In another settlement, a two-story building was damaged due to an attack by these assailant drones. Rescuers are currently containing the fire. Swift action by the watchman, who took cover in time, prevented casualties," the report added.
The State Emergency Service clarified that rocket fragments fell within the Bucha and Fastiv districts.
Andriy Niebytov from Kyiv’s National Police, noted that over 6 private homes in the Kyiv region were affected by the attack and ensuing debris.
"A 69-year-old woman suffered burns as her house caught fire from falling debris. Two men from the same household, aged 43 and 49, sustained minor cuts," Niebytov stated.
Moreover, a garage was destroyed, and two cars were wrecked.
"As a consequence of the aggressor's attack, private properties in one of the districts of the Kyiv region also sustained damage. Roofs and windows were affected. A grassy area ignited as well, but firefighters managed to promptly control the situation," the police chief added.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced the commencement of the drone attack around midnight. The drones were launched by the militants from the north. Following 02:00, the Air Defense Forces engaged with the approaching UAVs en route to Kyiv.
Post 03:00, Russians fired cruise missiles from Tu-95ms aircraft. These targets entered Kyiv's airspace around 5 a.m., causing explosions that, according to the Kyiv city military administration, were the outcome of the Air Defense Forces' work.
Terrorists fired Kalibr cruise missiles at Odesa and the surrounding area. Around 3:00 AM, the official Odesa Telegram channel reported the ongoing efforts of the air defense.
"The enemy has launched sea-based missiles at the Odesa region. Our defenses are actively countering. Seek shelter and avoid interfering with the air defense operations. Let's not assist the enemy. Stay safe!" the message stated.
No information regarding casualties has been provided.
In Cherkasy, the air defense systems were engaged against cruise missiles around 4:45 AM.
"Throughout the night until morning, the Cherkasy region remained on high alert due to the constant threat of rocket attacks. Fortunately, our defenders ensured solid protection," affirmed Ihor Taburets, the head of Cherkasy's regional military administration.
According to him, Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted a Russian missile over the region. There were no injuries or damages.
Vitaliy Kim, the head of Mykolaiv regional military administration, noted that the region's air defense system was active during the night.
The head of Zhytomyr regional military administration, Vitaly Bunechko, mentioned that kamikaze drones launched by the Russians targeted an infrastructure facility in the region.
“Due to the successful efforts of the air defense units, some of the incoming drones were intercepted and destroyed. The remains of the downed drone caused partial damage to the infrastructure facility and the railway track,” according to the report.
The incident led to a fire due to the debris falling, but it was swiftly brought under control by rescue teams. There were no reported casualties or injuries.
