Russia’s massive missile attack on Ukraine kills at least 3 

On the night of August 15, the Russian army launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukraine. So far, it has been reported that homes and enterprises in Dnipro, Lviv, Lutsk, and Smila in the Cherkasy region have been hit. The attack resulted in deaths, injuries and destruction.

This is what the local authorities say.

Lutsk

Two cruise missiles hit one of the industrial enterprises in the city, killing 3 people and injuring 3 others. The injured are in hospital, said Yuriy Pohulyaiko, head of the Volyn Regional Military Administration. This was confirmed by Lutsk Mayor Ihor Polishchuk.

"Volyn residents, air defense forces were working in the region during the night air raid. But, unfortunately, there was one hit on the industrial enterprise in the regional center," Pohulyaiko said at 6:00 a.m.

All relevant services are working at the scene. 

Lviv

As of 10:30 a.m., the number of wounded in the Lviv region increased to 15. The youngest victim was 10 years old, the oldest was 72, according to the head of the Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi.

Most of the victims had scratches and cuts due to broken windows, bruises. Five people were hospitalized.

As of 7:00 a.m., the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, reports that rocket fragments fell on apartment buildings on Patona and Kakhovska streets in Lviv, causing a fire.

According to the State Emergency Service, the fire was extinguished at 10:20 a.m. They added that the fire started in the apartments of a five-story residential building and in the attic. 

"There is destruction. People were evacuated. There are victims. They are being provided with all the necessary medical care. There is no information about the deaths so far," he said.

Small fires were also reported in other parts of Lviv. They were quickly extinguished. However, in one of the city's hypermarkets, the ceiling collapsed due to falling missile debris. There were also reports of damaged vehicles.

According to the mayor of the city, Andriy Sadovyi, the upper floors of the building burned down. In total, more than a hundred apartments were damaged, and over 500 windows were smashed. There were no casualties, but 4 people are receiving medical care. There is no threat to their lives.

The rocket also hit the kindergarten yard. The kindergarten was destroyed.

"The missile hit the pavilion directly. Now there is a crater 9 meters deep and 20 meters in diameter. There is even a missile remnant there," he said.

In contrast, 10 houses in Stavchany were damaged, and there are reports of people who suffered minor injuries. Houses in Sukhovolia were also damaged, there are no casualties at the moment.

In total, 100 apartments in Lviv were damaged as a result of another Russian attack. The city authorities promise to help people restore and repair them. According to Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of the Lviv Regional Administration, residents whose homes have been destroyed or damaged can apply for compensation for repairs from Diia app. The maximum amount of compensation is UAH 200 thousand.

As a Radio Liberty correspondent noted on Espreso, the houses closest to the destroyed kindergarten suffered huge damage. In particular, a resident of one of these houses said that people had been building it for 25 years.

Witnesses also told reporters that the kindergarten destroyed by the Russian missile had a huge aquarium with turtles - it was smashed to pieces, but the turtles survived. They were taken by caring people and will be taken to an animal shelter.

Dnipro 

A hit on an industrial enterprise in Dnipro was recorded. Two people were injured: A 59-year-old woman received light injuries and will be treated at home, and a 70-year-old man was hospitalized. He is in moderate condition.

The fire covered over 800 square meters of the enterprise. It was extinguished.

"During the morning massive attack, defenders from the East military group shot down 7 Kh-101/555 cruise missiles over the Dnipro region," wrote Serhiy Lysak, head of the Regional Military Administration.

In addition, Russian missiles damaged an important sports facility for the city, which hosted national competitions and where children were practicing.

"The windows were blown out, the facade and the inner wall were smashed. The civilian infrastructure is suffering again. They are destroying everything that Ukrainians have worked so hard to create," he added.

Cherkasy region

In the morning, Russia launched rocket attacks on this region as well.

In Smila, a rocket hit the territory of a private enterprise. Another hit the territory of a medical facility. There were no casualties.

"At the same time, water and heat supply networks were damaged. Part of the city is currently without water. Law enforcement and utility services are working at the scene," the Regional Military Administration added.

Khmelnytskyi region

In the morning, a series of explosions were heard during an air raid in Khmelnytskyi region. Air defense forces were working in the region.

"There is no information about damage to facilities or falling debris. There are no casualties," the Regional Military Administration said in a statement.

Ivano-Frankivsk region

The sounds of explosions were also heard in Prykarpattia. According to Svitlana Onyshchuk, head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Military Administration, Ukraine's air defense system was operating there. 

The missile fragments hit a private yard, damaging outbuildings and a residential building. There were no casualties.

Kyiv region

Last night the Russian Federation once again tried to launch a missile attack on the region. The air alert lasted for more than 2 hours. Air defense was operating in the region.

"No hits to critical or residential infrastructure were recorded. There is no information on casualties or falling debris," the Regional Military Administration said in a statement.

The launch of cruise missiles from Russian Tu-95MS strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea was reported by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force on Telegram.

Thus, the missile threat was announced for Sumy, Poltava, and eastern regions of Ukraine. A little later, the Air Force also warned of a missile threat in the south and center of the country. Alarms were sounded in Kyiv and its region and other central regions. Later, in the west of the country. According to the Air Alert Map, the danger was declared throughout Ukraine.

At 4:15 a.m., Suspilne TV reported explosions in Dnipro, and at 4:30 a.m. - in Zaporizhzhia. At about 4:50 a.m. - in Khmelnytskyi. Subsequently, the first deputy of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Tyurin, said that air defense was operating in Khmelnytskyi.

At 4:33 a.m., the Ukrainian Air Force reported a new missile launch from the area of Millerovo (Tu-22 M3). They also warned that the missiles were moving in the direction of the western regions. Later, explosions were heard in Lviv and Lutsk.

The alarms began to be heard after 5:30 a.m., and in all regions they sounded at 5:50 a.m.
