In her speech at the 27th Forum 2000 conference held in the Czech Republic, Moldovan President Maia Sandu emphasized the importance of democracy when it comes to Russia's war against Ukraine.
"The war in Ukraine is aimed at destroying this country and Ukrainians as a nation. If Russia were to succeed, Moldova would probably cease to exist as a free state. Today, Russia wants to control the former Soviet republics, just as it controlled the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the past," Sandu emphasized.
She said that the judgment of some countries in the region that they can stay on the sidelines is wrong. She emphasized that most countries have to make a choice on which side they are on: "the side of democracy and freedom or the side of oppression and propaganda."
On May 20, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that Russia is not a strategic partner for the country because of its actions. Russia has kept troops on the territory of the country for 30 years against the will of the Moldovan people.
Moldova will comply with the decision of the International Criminal Court and arrest Russian President Vladimir Putin if he comes to the country.
Moldova did not publicly disclose Zelenskyy's participation in the European Political Community summit held on June 1 in Chisinau for security reasons.
