Russia’s armored vehicle production at its peak, NATO says
Currently, the Russian military-industrial complex has reached its peak in armored vehicle production, a pace it can maintain for a year
A senior NATO official disclosed this during the summit, speaking on condition of anonymity, according to European Pravda.
"Russia now appears to be at the peak of its production capacity and can maintain this pace for at least another year," said a NATO official responsible for intelligence.
According to the official, Russia currently produces 130 tanks per month, which amounts to 1,600 per year.
"But it’s important to note that a significant portion, in fact, the vast majority, of this number consists of refurbished or modernized older tanks. About 2,000 old tanks remain, but some of them are only suitable for 'cannibalization,' meaning they’re used for spare parts," the official emphasized.
At the same time, according to NATO, Russia has lost at least 2,700 tanks since the start of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The senior NATO official also added that Russia's current industrial capacity allows it to produce "approximately 183 infantry fighting vehicles and armored personnel carriers per month."
"However, I would stress that although they are producing a lot, since the beginning of the full-scale war they have lost at least 5,000 IFVs and APCs — twice as many as they initially prepared in 2022… Russia is facing internal challenges, its defense industry is now operating at full capacity, and there is currently no room for expansion," he stated.
- It was previously reported that, as part of militarization efforts, Russia is inviting schoolchildren aged 16 and older to take on “summer jobs” at the Kalashnikov Concern, which specializes in the production of weapons and ammunition.
