"The bodies of two police officers were recovered from the rubble. Our condolences to the families of the victims. We are grieving with you," the post says.
In addition, four other investigators were injured. They are being provided with medical assistance.
"Police officers do not abandon civilians even in the hottest spots. They constantly risk their lives, remaining faithful to their oath. And today's tragedy proves that these are not just words," the Interior Ministry added.
The Prosecutor's Office opened a criminal investigation into the hostile shelling of an investigative team in the Sumy region.
According to updated reports, two police officers were killed and 6 wounded.
