"According to the investigation, on January 6, 2024, a shooter of the Storm-V assault unit of the 218th Tank Regiment of the 127th Motorized Rifle Division of the 5th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces, during an assault on the combat positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces near the village of Pryiutne, Polohy district, opened fire on a Ukrainian prisoner of war," the statement says.
It is stated that the Ukrainian serviceman laid down his weapon, raised his hands, and left the dugout. At the request of the Russian soldier, he knelt down, confirming his intention to surrender. However, the Russian soldier shot him.
The Russian was detained by Ukrainian defenders in late January. He was served a notice of suspicion of violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
