Surge in Russian saboteur attacks hits Ukraine’s Sumy region near border
In recent days, Russian airstrikes on the border areas of Ukraine's Sumy region have intensified, while sabotage and reconnaissance groups (SRGs) try to infiltrate Ukrainian territory
This was reported by Andrii Demchenko, spokesperson for Ukraine's State Border Guard Service, according to Suspilne.
"Sumy region has the highest number of Russian SRG incursions. Recently, saboteurs have been entering from the south. Ukrainian soldiers understand the threats, which vary in scale. They are constantly training and using reconnaissance drones to detect SRGs," Demchenko said.
He stated that in the villages of Novenke and Zhuravka, the Russian army is deploying small reconnaissance groups to infiltrate Ukrainian territory. He emphasized that Ukrainian forces are utilizing all available weapons to neutralize these groups.
According to DeepState OSINT project's military map, as of March 24, part of the village of Veselivka and the area near Volodymyrivka in the Sumy region have entered the “gray zone.” Additionally, the “gray zone” near Zhuravka has expanded.
Ruslan Mykula, co-founder of DeepState, told Suspilne that Russian troops are attempting to breach the Sumy border in new locations, with battles ongoing in contested areas.
