According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the death toll in Kharkiv increased to 10 people as of 2 p.m. on January 24.
Rescuers unblocked the bodies of a woman and a man from the rubble of a five-story building in the Kyiv neighborhood of Kharkiv. The search and rescue operation continues.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry clarified that the woman was 56 years old and the man was 57. Two dead dogs were also pulled from the rubble.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported 18 deaths as a result of the morning Russian strike in his evening address on January 23.
He noted that Russia had fired "almost 40 missiles of various types at Ukraine in the morning - another combined strike to try to bypass our air defense system."
"More than 200 different objects were damaged - 139 houses alone, ordinary houses... 130 people were wounded or injured. All of them are being provided with the necessary assistance. Unfortunately, 18 people were killed," Zelenskyy added.
According to the Air Force, during the combined missile strike, Russia launched 41 air attack weapons at Ukraine, most of the missiles were ballistic missiles. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 21 Russian missiles - 15 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles, 5 Iskander-M ballistic missiles, and a Kh-59 guided missile.
The first explosions in Kyiv occurred around 7:00 a.m. Within a quarter of an hour, the capital heard another series of explosions.
Several buildings were damaged in Solomianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi and Pecherskyi districts of Kyiv.
In the Sviatoshynskyi neighborhood, debris damaged balconies from the 1st to the 5th floor of a residential building and 4 apartments. An unexploded missile warhead was found in another building, and the residents were evacuated. Also in Sviatoshynskyi district, a non-residential two-story building caught fire. At another address, cars caught fire.
In Pecherskyi neighborhood, a fire broke out as a result of a hit to a non-residential building.
In Darnytskyi district, fragments of Russian missiles fell in several places, including on the roof of a 9-storey residential building and near the territory of a kindergarten.
In Solomianskyi district, a blast wave smashed windows in an apartment building, fires broke out in several apartments, and a two-story non-residential building was destroyed.
According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, as of 11:30 a.m., 22 people were injured in the missile strike in Kyiv, 12 of them hospitalized. As of 4:45 p.m., the search and rescue operation was completed.
At 7:11 p.m., Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the regional military administration, said that the number of injured in the Kyiv region had increased to 4 people.
"One victim with polytrauma and fractures was hospitalized at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital. One person was poisoned by combustion products, two more refused hospitalization," Kravchenko wrote.
He added that three multi-storey buildings, outbuildings, 21 cars, and a cafe were damaged. The fragments of Russian missiles were also found on the territories of two educational institutions. Windows in one of the lyceums were damaged.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, the head of the Regional Military Administration, the Russian military launched about 12 combined missile strikes on residential areas of Kharkiv - including the S-300, Kh-32 and Iskander missiles.
He added that 48 people were injured, including 4 children and teenagers aged 10, 12, 14 and 17, their condition is moderate. All the victims were taken to hospitals. Among the adults, 5 are in serious condition.
"A family was trapped under the rubble of a house: a man, a woman and a child. The man was rescued, the rescue operation is ongoing," he said.
At around 12:30 p.m., the regional prosecutor's office reported that the death toll had risen to five.
"Despite the efforts of doctors who fought to save the lives of the two wounded women, unfortunately, they both died in the hospital," the statement read.
Later, Syniehubov said that the body of another victim, a 21-year-old woman, had been pulled from the rubble. In total, the death toll in Kharkiv has risen to 6 people.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the number of injured increased to 57 people. Eight children were among the injured.
At 5:37 p.m., the Interior Ministry reported that rescuers had unblocked the body of another dead woman from the rubble of a destroyed multi-story building. At 6:47 p.m., Syniehubov added that rescuers found the body of an 8-year-old girl under the rubble.
"As of now, there are 8 dead," wrote the head of the Military Administration.
As of 8:17 a.m., one person was killed in Pavlohrad as a result of a Russian strike. In addition, one person was injured and received medical assistance.
