Russian forces execute 9 Ukrainian POWs in Kursk region, Ukraine urges action from UN, ICRC
Nine Ukrainian soldiers, forced to surrender, were executed by Russian troops in the Kursk region
Reported by DeepState.
According to sources from DeepState, on October 10, Russian forces executed drone operators and their fellow soldiers near the village of Zelenyi Shliakh.
"The exact details are still being clarified, but it's known that the soldiers thought they were in a relatively secure zone. However, they were soon engaged by the enemy and forced to return fire. With limited ammunition, they had no choice but to surrender," the report states.
DeepState added that they’ve discussed the situation with officers and commanders from other locations.
Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's Human Rights Commissioner, said he has formally appealed to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations following reports of the executions.
"These actions are blatant violations of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War! I’ve sent urgent letters to the UN and ICRC about yet another atrocity by the Russians. These crimes cannot go unpunished. The enemy must be held fully accountable. Russia continues to act as a terrorist state, trampling on all laws and customs of war," the ombudsman emphasized.
Aidar commander Bunyatov: they are not captives, they fought to the last
Stanislav Bunyatov, the commander of the 24th Aidar Brigade, emphasized that sources claiming that the fighters surrendered are unverified. According to him, “the military fought to the last”.
“Your sources are f***ed up, if you have such f***ing stuff on a dish. The guys were in the rear, there was a breakthrough, the f***ers entered their forest belt from two sides, none of the pilots surrendered voluntarily, the guys fought to the last! If they could have withdrawn, they would have. Very worthy fighters were killed! Before publishing such bullshit, first check with your sources to see if the information is accurate,” Bunyatov wrote.
