
Russian drones hit military hospital, shopping center, and homes in Kharkiv, killing two and injuring over 25
On the evening of Saturday, March 29, 2025, Russian forces launched an attack on Ukraine using Shahed drones. The strike targeted a military hospital, a residential building, and various civilian infrastructure in Kharkiv. At least two people were killed and 25 others injured
Massive Attack on Kharkiv
As of 8:50 p.m. on March 29, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported three explosions in the city.
His updates appeared at one-minute intervals:
- 8:45 p.m. – “An explosion in the center of Kharkiv. Shahed attack.”
- 8:46 p.m. – “Another explosion. Kharkiv is under Shahed attack, be careful!”
- 8:47 p.m. – “Another explosion in the city.”
At 9:07 p.m., Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed a UAV strike in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
“At the moment, there are two victims. Emergency services have arrived at the impact sites,” he stated.
Another strike occurred in the Kholodnohirsk district, though no casualties were initially reported.
By 9:31 p.m., Syniehubov provided further details:
“A hostile UAV hit a private house in the Shevchenkivskyi district. One person was killed, and another was wounded.”
By 9:45 p.m., the number of victims had risen to ten, including a 16-year-old boy and a girl. One person was confirmed dead.
At 9:55 p.m., Mayor Terekhov clarified that Russian UAVs struck six different locations, including:
- A shopping center
- Multi-story residential buildings
- A medical facility
- An office building
As of 10:08 p.m., reports emerged that a person was trapped under the rubble, prompting an ongoing rescue operation. Mayor Ihor Terekhov also confirmed that the number of victims had risen to 15.
By 10:37 p.m., Terekhov updated the toll, stating that 19 people had been injured in the attack.
At 10:44 p.m., Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed that a military hospital had been struck. According to preliminary information, there are casualties among wounded soldiers receiving treatment at the facility. The General Staff emphasized that this was a deliberate and targeted strike on a Ukrainian medical institution by the Russian military.
At 11:19 p.m., Terekhov reported that the number of casualties had increased to 27. The search operation in the Kholodnohirsk district remains ongoing.
“Unfortunately, there are now two confirmed deaths. The body of one deceased person has been recovered from the rubble,” he added.
As of 00:23 a.m. on March 30, authorities confirmed that the two fatalities were a 67-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman. Additionally, 25 people have been injured, suffering wounds of varying severity.
Among the injured are three children:
- A 15-year-old girl remains hospitalized in serious condition.
- Two other children sustained minor injuries and will receive outpatient treatment.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service (SES) provided further details on the March 29 attack, confirming that Russian attack drones targeted the Kholodnohirsk, Shevchenkivskyi, and Kyivskyi districts of Kharkiv.
“In the evening of March 29, the enemy launched a massive drone attack on Kharkiv. Six fires broke out. Private homes were destroyed, while office buildings, a medical facility, commercial facilities, garages, and cars sustained damage. One of the strikes completely destroyed a private residential building, sparking a 100-square-meter fire. Rescuers freed an injured man and recovered the body of a deceased woman from the rubble. Firefighting and debris removal are still underway.”
The SES confirmed that, according to preliminary data:
- 2 people were killed
- 25 others were injured
Emergency response teams, including State Emergency Service units, National Police, medical personnel, and utility workers, are actively operating at the scene. Psychologists are providing support to the victims, and the SES canine unit has been deployed to assist in search operations.
