Russian drone attack kills four in Kyiv, injures civilians in Zaporizhzhia
On the evening of Saturday, September 27, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with strike drones, followed by missiles at night. In Zaporizhzhia, 27 were wounded, and in Kyiv on the morning of September 28, four were killed, including a 12-year-old girl
Kyiv
As of 5:45 a.m.:
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, there is currently one injured person in the Solomyansky and Sviatoshynskyi districts. Medics are working on site. One injured person has been hospitalized.
In Solomyansky District, debris from a UAV caused partial damage to a five-story residential building.
Debris was also reported in Sviatoshynskyi, Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts.
"Currently, three people have been injured as a result of the Russian attack on the capital. All have been hospitalized. The massive attack on Kyiv continues. Stay in shelters," Klitschko reported at 06:07 a.m.
He later added that a kiosk is on fire in Darnytskyi due to the Russian attack.
"The Russian attack on the capital continues. After 6 a.m., debris reportedly fell in Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, and Holosiivskyi districts. In Dniprovskyi district, a fire broke out. Emergency services are responding," the mayor said at 06:40 a.m.
As of 07:09 a.m., the number of injured rose to five, with two more injured in Solomyansky district.
At 07:39 a.m., Klitschko updated that six people were injured — five hospitalized, one woman received aid on site.
"In Solomyansky district, a fire broke out in a non-residential building. In Darnytskyi district, UAV debris fell on a kindergarten," Klitschko said at 07:48 a.m. Debris reportedly also fell on a residential building.
Additionally, in Solomyansky district, a fire broke out on one floor of a state medical facility, with possible casualties.
According to updated information, in Sviatoshynskyi district, debris fell in the yard of a residential building. Several cars caught fire, but the fire was quickly extinguished.
Kyiv City Military Administration Head Tymur Tkachenko reported at 08:27 a.m. that a woman died in Solomyansky district due to the attack on a residential building.
At 08:33 a.m., he confirmed that the total number of injured in the capital is 10, with at least two dead.
"The data is likely not final," Tkachenko warned.
Later, rescuers in Solomyansky district recovered a female body, preliminarily a 12-year-old girl.
It was later confirmed that three people died as a result of the attack, including the 12-year-old girl.
Aftermath of the Russian attack on Kyiv as of 08:30 a.m., September 28:
- Solomyansky district: partial collapse of a five-story building, rescuers recovered a woman’s body;
- Darnytsky district: UAV debris fell on parked cars, a road, a kindergarten, and private property;
- Sviatoshynskyi district: debris fell on a two-story non-residential building (fire extinguished), in the yard of a residential building, and in an open area;
- Holosiivskyi district: debris fell on three private houses;
- Solomyansky district: partial collapse and fire on upper floors of a five-story residential building (fire contained); fire on 3–4 floors of a state medical facility; debris also on private property and non-residential buildings;
- Dniprovskyi district: UAV debris caused car fires on a parking lot (fire extinguished);
- Obolon district: debris fell on several sites, including non-residential buildings and near residential houses.
As of 09:17 a.m., one body was found at a site. Currently, four victims of the Russian attack are known.
"According to medics, there are 13 injured in the capital due to the Russian attack and three dead. Four are hospitalized, eight receiving outpatient aid, and one woman treated on site," Klitschko reported at 09:47 a.m.
Kyiv region
Kyiv Regional State Administration Head Mykola Kalashnyk reported on the situation in the region.
As of 05:18 a.m.:
- Bucha District: fire in non-residential buildings, private houses, and two cars;
- Fastiv District: fire in a private house;
- Bila Tserkva: fire in private houses and non-residential buildings;
- Obukhiv District: fire in a farm building caused by debris from a downed target.
He later reported casualties in the region.
In Fastiv district, five people were injured — employees of a bread factory — due to a fire on site. The fire has been extinguished.
In Bila Tserkva, a fire broke out on the roof of a nine-story residential building, damaging six cars. Two women (56 and 47) suffered acute stress reactions; they received on-site medical aid.
As of 09:15 a.m., the number of injured in Kyiv region rose to 27:
- Bucha District: 17 injured;
- Fastiv District: 7 injured;
- Bila Tserkva: 3 injured.
According to the State Emergency Service, as of 11:09 a.m., 31 people have been injured in Kyiv region, including three children.
Fires and destruction have been reported in Bila Tserkva, Fastiv, Bucha, Obukhiv, and Boryspil districts.
Work is ongoing to eliminate the consequences of the missile strikes in Bucha and Bila Tserkva districts.
Sumy region
Head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration Oleh Hryhorov reported that the region was hit by Russian drones overnight.
In the morning, Russian drones attacked the Konotop community.
“Two injured civilians, a man and a woman, sought medical help. They reportedly have minor injuries, and medics are examining them. All necessary services are involved in responding to the attack while observing safety measures,” he emphasized.
Odesa region
According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, Russia again attacked Odesa overnight.
One enterprise was damaged, causing a fire that was quickly extinguished. The roof of a nearby private house was also damaged.
Zaporizhzhia region
At 01:07 a.m., head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration Ivan Fedorov reported explosions in the region.
He also warned of the threat of high-speed missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia region.
"Three more explosions occurred in the city. Do not ignore safety rules. The alarm is sounding across the region," Fedorov wrote at 01:21 a.m.
He later added that a fire broke out in one of the districts of Zaporizhzhia due to the Russian attack.
At 01:41 a.m., Fedorov reported that Russians carried out at least four strikes on the city.
A gas station and its equipment were damaged.
He later specified that one of the Russian strikes hit a private house. One person was injured. Medics are providing full assistance.
At 02:43 a.m., Fedorov reported that the number of injured from the night attack on Zaporizhzhia had risen to three.
“A 22-year-old woman sought medical help,” he noted.
In the early morning, at 05:15 a.m., the head of the regional administration reported the threat of high-speed missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia region. A minute later, he reported explosions.
"Russians continue to attack Zaporizhzhia. A Russian strike was carried out. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties. The consequences of the attack are being assessed," Fedorov wrote at 05:33 a.m.
He also warned of the threat of cruise missiles to Zaporizhzhia region. Two minutes later, explosions were heard.
"Russians are attempting to strike the city’s critical infrastructure. One educational facility was damaged by the blast wave," Fedorov said at 05:47 a.m.
Additionally, a fire broke out in one of the city’s multi-story buildings.
As of 05:52 a.m., the number of injured had risen to four.
Later, Fedorov clarified that Russians carried out at least two strikes on the city.
"As a result of the attack, production facilities of an enterprise and a multi-story residential building were damaged. Apartments are on fire. Preliminary reports indicate two people were injured," he added.
At 06:19 a.m., the number of injured from the morning attack had risen to three.
One man and two women needed medical assistance.
At 7 a.m., Fedorov clarified that Russian occupiers struck Zaporizhzhia with two missiles.
"During the night, homes and infrastructure in the Dniprovskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts of Zaporizhzhia were damaged. In total, 9 private houses and 14 multi-story buildings were affected. Non-residential buildings were also damaged. Specialists have started boarding up windows with OSB sheets," he wrote at 07:21 a.m.
The total number of injured overnight is 8.
As of 07:55 a.m., the number of people injured in the morning attack had risen to 16, including three children.
Later, Fedorov added that the number of injured as of 08:04 a.m. had risen to 21.
As of 09:42 a.m., the number of people injured in the morning strike on Zaporizhzhia stands at 27, including three children.
