Russia fails to carry out repairs, maintenance at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant
The Russians at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant (ZNPP) don't comply with safety regulations. The condition of the plant's equipment is currently unknown
Oleh Korikov, head of Ukraine’s State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, said this during a telethon.
"Today, the technical condition of equipment and safety systems at Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant is actually unknown in detail. We are talking about pipelines, machines, mechanisms, and pumping equipment," he said.
According to Korikov, the Russian Federation doesn't carry out repairs and maintenance in the proper amount, and doesn't comply with safety regulations.
The head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate emphasized that Energoatom and the IAEA don't receive information from the radiation monitoring system at ZNPP online. He noted that the entire system includes 18 monitoring stations, 4 of which are out of service.
"This reduces our ability to monitor the radiation situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP and the surrounding area," Korikov added.
- On June 28, the IAEA reported that the external radiation monitoring station at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was destroyed by shelling and fire.
