Russia attacks Ukraine’s energy sector with 2,300 missiles, drones during full-scale war
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have attacked Ukraine's energy infrastructure with more than 1,000 drones and about 1,300 missiles
This was reported by Ukrenergo, Ukraine's power grid operator.
‘Almost 1,300 missiles and about 1,000 attack drones. This is the number of weapons used by Russia against the Ukrainian energy infrastructure since the beginning of the war,' the report says.
In particular, on Friday, December 13, Russia used 93 missiles and almost 200 UAVs for the 12th massive attack in 2024.
‘In preparation for all possible scenarios, before the start of the heating season, Ukrenergo accumulated a large stock of repair equipment. And now it is being actively used, because after the recent massive attacks on the power system, the scale of emergency repair work is very significant,’ the company assured.
The article explains that some of Ukrenergo's facilities are attacked by Russia on a regular basis, and then with pauses until the repairs are completed after the previous strike. Therefore, the work has to be started again.
‘After today's massive attack, the Ukrainian power system is being restored once again. Please follow the recommendations for sparing electricity consumption. This will help power engineers and reduce the need for forced blackouts,’ Ukrenergo urged.
- From 2pm on December 12 to 10am on December 13, the Russian occupation army launched a combined air attack on Ukraine with missiles of various types and drones. Defenders of Ukrainian skies destroyed 81 missiles and 90 Russian UAVs.
