Russian drone attack on Ukraine kills civilians in Kharkiv, injures children

Attack on Kharkiv: casualties reported, dozens injured

As of 10:25 a.m., it was reported that an 88-year-old man, brought to the hospital in critical condition, had died.

According to Oleh Syniehubov, 32 people were injured.

Updated at 07:36 a.m. By Friday morning, the death toll had risen to four, with one more body recovered from the rubble. The number of wounded has increased to 35.

At 01:28 a.m., Dmytro Chubenko, spokesperson for the Kharkiv regional prosecutor’s office, provided details about the attack on the Novobavarsky district of Kharkiv.

He stated that 34 people were injured, including 2 children. A 9-year-old boy suffered acute stress response, while a 16-year-old had a broken leg. Other victims sustained fractures and bruises.

Chubenko also reported that about a dozen 2-4-5-story buildings were damaged. One of the drone strikes, a Geran type, hit a two-story building, destroying half of it. Two apartments, where 5 people lived, were trapped under the rubble.

Two victims have been identified: a couple who lived in the building. Their 10-year-old daughter is still being searched for under the debris.

Rescuers were also searching for a family living on the first floor: a 70-year-old woman and her 50-year-old son. They had not made contact, and according to neighbors, they were in the apartment at the time of the attack.

At 01:18 a.m., Terekhov wrote that rescuers had recovered fragments of a third body from under the rubble.

As of 12:40 a.m., 32 people were reported injured in Kharkiv, including two children.

At 12:30 a.m., Oleh Syniehubov wrote that there may be people under the rubble of one of the high-rise buildings hit by a drone. The mayor of Kharkiv clarified that it could be three people. At the time, a search and rescue operation was underway.

Syniehubov also added that the strike caused the roof of the high-rise building to catch fire over an area of 500 square meters, and 7 cars and two apartments over a total area of 70 square meters caught fire.

At 12:08 a.m. on Friday, April 4, Terekhov reported that the death toll from the drone strike in Kharkiv had risen to two.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported the attack.

“At least two Shahed drone strikes hit the city, including the Novobavarsky district,” he wrote on Telegram at 9:58 p.m.

At 10:03 p.m., he added that a fire broke out at one of the impact sites while the air attack was ongoing.

By 10:16 p.m., Terekhov confirmed a strike on a two-story building, causing a large fire.

"Preliminarily, there are casualties," he wrote.

“There was a hit to an apartment building in Novobavarsky district. According to preliminary information, there are victims, including children,” Terekhov said at 10:24 p.m.

However, at 10:18 p.m., Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov initially indicated that, according to preliminary data, no casualties had been reported.

“In the Novobavarsky district of Kharkiv, Russia carried out drone strikes. At this moment, there are no casualties,” Syniehubov wrote.

By 10:58 p.m., he reported 11 injured, including a child, while Terekhov mentioned 12. Later, Terekhov confirmed one fatality in the district.

At 11:28 p.m., Syniehubov stated that the number of injured had risen to 17.

"Four wounded have been hospitalized, one in serious condition. All are receiving medical care," he wrote.

At 11:36 p.m., Terekhov updated the toll to 19 injured.

Syniehubov also reported a Shahed drone strike in the village of Ruski Tyshky, injuring a 69-year-old man who was hospitalized.

By 11:47 p.m., the total number of injured had risen to 29, with varying degrees of severity, according to Syniehubov.

Attack on Zaporizhzhia region

At 10:57 p.m., the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration Ivan Fedorov reported explosions in the region. Ten minutes later, more blasts followed.

"In Zaporizhzhia, several explosions were heard in different parts of the city. Emergency services are assessing the consequences," Fedorov wrote at 11:08 p.m.

Later, it was reported that a non-residential building in one of the communities caught fire due to the strike. No casualties were reported.

According to Fedorov, the Russians used at least seven drones to attack the region and Zaporizhzhia district. A warehouse was damaged.

As of 01:12 a.m., according to updated information, a 63-year-old man was injured in the Russian attack. 

Kyiv region and capital: air defense intercepts attack, one injured

At 11:43 p.m., Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that air defense was operating in the capital. 

At 11:54 p.m., the Kyiv Regional Military Administration reported that Russian drones were spotted in the region. Air defense was operating.

In addition, four trucks and a car caught fire in a parking lot, but the fire was quickly extinguished. The building of a car dealership also caught fire as a result of falling debris from downed Russian targets. Five cars were preliminarily damaged. The fire was also extinguished. 

Dnipropetrovsk region: three people injured

At 12:53 a.m., the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration reported that the region was under a massive Shahed drone attack.

"Loud explosions in Dnipro and Kamianske. Fires broke out in Dnipro. A house is on fire in one district. Administrative buildings are damaged," the statement said.

At 01:12 a.m., the Regional Military Administration updated that, according to preliminary data, two people were injured in Dnipro. They received medical help on-site and will be treated on an outpatient basis. About half an hour later, they clarified: "Three people injured in Dnipro now. A 66-year-old woman was hospitalized in a moderate condition."

In the morning, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, reported damage in Dnipro and its suburbs due to the massive drone attack.

According to him, infrastructure objects, two administrative buildings, private and guest houses, a utility building, a non-operating building, vehicles, a gas pipeline, and an electric line were damaged.

"The firefighters have extinguished the fires," added the head of the Regional Military Administration.
