No signs of preparation to restart Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, says IAEA
The IAEA believes there are no signs that Russia is preparing to resume operations at the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
This was reported by Reuters, citing a source at the IAEA.
"Our teams continue to confirm there is no indication at the moment that there will be any active preparations for a restart of the plant now," the IAEA official said on condition of anonymity.
This statement comes in the wake of a Greenpeace report claiming that the Russians have plans to restart the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
Ukraine’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, Yuriy Vitrenko, stated that Ukraine has lodged a protest with the IAEA regarding reports that Russia is building a power line to connect the Zaporizhzhia plant to its own energy system. According to him, Kyiv views any attempts by Russia to integrate the occupied plant into its energy grid as a blatant violation of international law and Ukraine’s sovereignty.
- In its new report, Greenpeace notes that the Russians are actively constructing a new high-voltage power line in the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions to facilitate the illegal restart of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and its integration into the Russian energy system.
