European Parliament describes Russia’s abduction of Ukrainian children as genocide
Espreso correspondent Tetiana Vysotska says that, according to official data, about 20,000 Ukrainian children have been forcibly relocated to the territory of the Russian Federation, Belarus, or to the occupied territories of Ukraine
She reported this on Espreso TV.
“In the European Parliament, an important resolution was adopted, in which Russia’s actions against Ukrainian children were called a crime of genocide. During the session, deputies cited striking figures.
According to official data, about 20,000 children have been forcibly relocated to the territory of the Russian Federation, Belarus, or to the occupied territories of Ukraine. Of these children, only about 1,300 have been returned to Ukraine, and 624 children have been declared dead. These are terrible numbers. In view of this, the European Parliament, in its resolution, strongly condemned Russia’s actions regarding Ukrainian children, and added that Belarus is complicit in Russia’s crimes against Ukrainian children,” the correspondent noted.
According to her, the European Parliament accuses Russia and Belarus not only of the illegal relocation of Ukrainian children, but also of horrific crimes: murder, sexual violence, sexual exploitation, forced Russification, forced militarization, and forced adoption.
“The European Parliament called for all individuals and legal entities involved in these terrible crimes to be punished and for EU sanctions to be imposed against them. The European Parliament’s resolution also emphasizes that the illegal adoption of Ukrainian children is part of a large program by the Russian government, and that all these actions bear the hallmarks of genocide.
This is a strategy of genocide aimed at erasing the Ukrainian identity of Ukrainian children. The European Parliament appealed to the entire world community, stating that those responsible for these crimes must be punished at the level of the International Criminal Court, the UN court, as well as a new tribunal for the crime of aggression by Russia against Ukraine, which is currently in the process of being established,” Tetiana Vysotska summarized.
- According to the President’s Office, about 1.6 million Ukrainian children are under Russian control—either deported or forced to live under occupation.
