Russian UN diplomat condemns Putin, war on Ukraine, and resigns
Boris Bondarev, an arms control specialist serving as Counsellor at the Russian mission to the UN in Geneva, made a public post on social media criticising Russian President Vladimir Putin over his war on Ukraine, and submitted his resignation.
This statement appeared on Bondarev’s Facebook page.
“The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia.”
According to his words, those who conceived this war want only one thing - to remain in power forever.
“To live in pompous tasteless palaces, to sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, enjoying unlimited power and complete impunity. To achieve that they are willing to sacrifice as many lives as it takes.”
He also called Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lavrov a “good illustration of the degradation of this system.”
“In 18 years, he went from a professional and educated intellectual, whom many my colleagues held in such high esteem, to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world (that is, Russia too) with nuclear weapons!
Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred. It serves interests of few, the very few people thus contributing to further isolation and degradation of my country.”
Russian publication Commersant stated after a while, that Bondarev confirmed the truthfulness of this information from his name. Bondarev also specified that he posted his statement in the morning, not discussing it with any of his colleagues, and he hasn’t thought about future plans yet.
