Ukrainian army counters 20 Russian attacks in Avdiivka sector - General Staff

The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff reported this.

Unfortunately, Russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed and damaged. 

Frontline situation

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

Near the state Ukrainian border with Russia and Belarus, the situation hasn't changed significantly, and no enemy offensive groups have been detected. Certain units of the Belarusian Armed Forces are performing tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine.

At the same time, the Russian army continued shelling the entire borderline with mortars and artillery: over 20 settlements across the Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions were attacked. 

Russian attacks in frontline Ukrainian regions

In the Kupyansk direction, the Ukrainian army repelled 18 Russian attacks in the Kharkiv and Luhansk directions. About 10 settlements came under artillery fire.

In the Lyman direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3 Russian attacks near Terny, Donetsk region, where the Russian  troops, supported by air power, tried to break through the Ukrainian defense. Over 10 settlements in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions were attacked.

In the Bakhmut direction, Ukrainian troops repelled 7 enemy assaults near Bohdanivka, Klishchiivka and Andriivka in the Donetsk region. Russia also launched an airstrike near Toretsk, Donetsk region. About 10 localities came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Avdiivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled 20 attacks east of Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka and 12 attacks in the vicinity of Pervomaiske in the Donetsk region. Here, the Russian army, with the support of aviation, unsuccessfully tried to break through the Ukrainian defense of our troops. About 10 localities in the Donetsk region were attacked.

In the Marinka direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the areas of Marinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk region, where the Russian troops, supported by aviation, launched 11 unsuccessful attacks on the Ukrainian army’s positions.

In the Shakhtarsk direction, Russia did not conduct offensive (assault) actions. About 10 localities in the Donetsk region came under artillery and mortar fire.

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the Ukrainian army repelled 5 attacks west of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia region, where the Russian troops tried to force our units out of their positions. About 25 settlements were subjected to enemy attacks.

In the Kherson direction, Kherson and Antonivka came under enemy artillery fire. Russia also launched an airstrike near Krynky, Kherson region.

Russian troops made 11 unsuccessful assault operations, received a worthy rebuff and suffered significant losses. Ukrainian military units are steadfastly holding the line, continuing to hold their positions and inflicting fire on the invading forces.

Over the day, Ukrainian aviation launched 14 strikes on Russian military positions

Two more strikes were launched on Russian anti-aircraft missile systems. Missile troops hit a manpower concentration area, 2 munitions depots, and an artillery unit.
