Russia attacks Kherson and Donetsk regions: two people killed, teenager among wounded

On the morning of January 3, the Russian army shelled the Kurakhove community in Donetsk region and the village of Sadove in the Kherson region. Russian troops also launched four missiles at Avdiivka

Kurakhove city military administration head Roman Padun and the Prosecutor General's Office reported about the Kurakhove community shelling.

"During the day, the Kurakhove community came under enemy fire. The Ostrovske village outskirts and the Kurakhove industrial zone were hit. There were 10 hits on the town. The territory is being checked. There were no casualties," Padun wrote.

Meanwhile, in the morning, the Russian proxies shelled the town of Hirnyk, damaging a private house and wounding a man. The Prosecutor General's Office clarified that the wounded was a teenager. "According to the investigation, on January 3, 2024, at 7:30 a.m., Russian troops fired artillery at Hirnyk. One of the shells hit a private house where a mother and her minor son stayed. The 16-year-old teenager was injured and was rushed to a medical facility. Doctors diagnosed the victim with mine-blast and craniocerebral injuries, contusion and bruises to the leg," the general prosecutor's office said.

Proceedings were opened on the laws and customs of war violation.

Later, Vadym Filashkin, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that at about 11 a.m., the Russian forces launched four rockets at Avdiivka.

"A 51-year-old man died on the spot, a 50-year-old woman was taken to hospital with injuries," he wrote.

Attack on Kherson region

Oleksandr Prokudin, Kherson Regional Military Administration head, reported the shelling of Sadove village. 

According to him, the Russians attacked the village with artillery at about 11:10 am. The shell hit a residential building, killing a resident. An elderly man died under the rubble. Rescuers took out his body.

  • On January 2, Russia shelled the Chasiv Yar and Marinka communities in the Donetsk region. Two people were killed and one civilian was injured.
