Russian soldier kills evacuating civilian in Donetsk
A Russian soldier shot and killed a civilian in Ukraine’s Donetsk region, prompting prosecutors to launch a war crimes investigation, according to Ukraine's Office of the Prosecutor General
Officials said that a video posted on a Telegram channel shows a civilian trying to evacuate from the village of Udachne. The man was walking along the side of the road, carrying a suitcase with what appeared to be his remaining belongings.
A Russian serviceman, positioned in an ambush inside a ruined building, opened aimed fire and killed the man with an automatic weapon.
Ukrainian law enforcement has launched an investigation under the statute on war crimes resulting in civilian death. If identified and convicted, the Russian soldier faces life imprisonment.
Prosecutors noted that this is already the third documented case this year in which Russian occupying forces have executed civilians in Donetsk region.
