Russian occupiers burned bodies of their soldiers in landfill near Kherson
Residents of liberated Kherson and workers of the local landfill said that the Russians burned the bodies of their fallen soldiers in the landfill
This is reported by The Guardian.
In the publication, referring to the words of local residents, it is noted that at the landfill on the outskirts of Kherson, among the piles of garbage, you can come across what happened here recently. According to local residents and workers, Russian flags, uniforms and helmets can still be seen from under the mud, and hundreds of seagulls and dozens of stray dogs roam around.
Until the moment when the Kherson region was de-occupied, this territory was fenced off and protected by Russian invaders.
According to the Guardian, several local residents and workers said that the reason for such disturbing secrecy was that the occupying forces had a terrible purpose there: to dump the bodies of their fallen comrades and then burn them.
Residents told the publication that they saw Russian open trucks arriving at the site with black bags. Then these bags were set on fire, and a great cloud of smoke rose in the air, with the terrible smell of burning meat.
Local residents believe that in this way the Russians destroyed the bodies of their soldiers who died during the battles.
"Every time our army shelled the Russians there, they moved the remains to the landfill and burned them," Iryna, a 40-year-old woman from Kherson, told the publication.
45-year-old Svitlana Viktorivna said that a Russian checkpoint was set up at the entrance to the cemetery.
"We were not allowed anywhere near the area of the landfill where they were burning the bodies," she says. "So let me tell you how it was: they came here, they left some of their soldier-guards, and unloaded and burned. One day my husband and I arrived at the wrong time. We came here while they were doing their ‘business’ and they gave my husband a hard blow in the face with a club."
The woman added that she did not see the remains, because the Russians "buried everything that was left."
Ukrainian authorities told the Guardian they could not comment on whether the allegations were being investigated.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said nearly 6,000 troops had been killed in Ukraine, but at the end of the summer the Pentagon estimated about 80,000 Russian troops had been killed or wounded.
