The Russian commander of the Leningrad Regiment, Colonel Yevgeny Vashunin, died of wounds received during the fighting in Ukraine

The spokesman for the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, Alexander Belsky, said that Vashunin was fatally wounded when he " went to the aid of the Storm unit, which was surrounded."
"During the clash, Colonel Vashunin was cut off from his fellow soldiers and seriously wounded. Despite the self-help measures he took, he died, selflessly fighting until the last minute," says Belsky.
The "Leningrad Regiment" is a regiment consisting of mobilized residents of St. Petersburg and the regions of northwestern Russia.
It is noted that Vashunin was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Russia "for courage and heroism displayed in the performance of military duty".
