Russian invasion kills 231 Ukrainian children, injures 427 more

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, 231 children have been killed and 1,828 educational institutions have been damaged.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor's General Office announced the figures in their Telegram channel.

"As of May 19, more than 658 Ukrainian children suffered as a result of full-scale Russian military aggression. 231 juvenile children were killed and over 427 injured," the juvenile prosecutors noted.

The information isn't final, because the numbers are being set in areas of active hostilities, the temporarily occupied and liberated territories.

The number of suffered children amounted to:

Kyiv region - 116 

Kharkiv region - 100

Chernihiv region - 68

Kherson region - 48

Luhansk region - 47

Mykolaiv region - 44

Zaporizhzhya region - 28

Sumy region - 17

Kyiv - 16

Zhytomyr region -  15

On May 17, Russia once again fired on Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. As a result of a missile attack on an apartment building, 9, 12 and 17-years-old children were severely injured. On May 18, rescuers found the bodies of a woman and 2-year-old child under the rubble of the destroyed house.

A 17-year-old girl was killed in the Russian shelling of civilian infrastructure in Pology, Zaporizhzhya region.

On May 16, eight people were blown up by a mine, including a 5-year-old girl, on the road in the Mykolaiv region. They received injuries of varying severity.

"Russian bombing and shelling of Ukrainian towns and villages damaged 1,828 educational institutions. At the same time 171 of them were completely destroyed," the prosecutor's office noted.
