Russian 'great offensive' turned out to be nothing – intelligence representative Cherniak

Andrii Cherniak, representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate, says that the Russian forces' 'great offensive,' which was so actively spread by Russian propaganda, has not yielded any significant results

In an interview with Ukrinform, he said that the Russian Federation was unable to conduct offensive operations.

“Today we see that the Russian army has proved incapable of conducting strategic offensive operations. The so-called 'great offensive' announced by propaganda for several months has failed for the Russians – they have not received any significant result,” Cherniak said.

The intelligence official notes that Russia's main goal now is to reach the administrative boundaries of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions by any means necessary.

Cherniak also emphasized that the Russians will be able to conduct combat operations for another one or two years, provided that their intensity does not change.

"If we talk about an inertial scenario, i.e., one in which the current intensity of hostilities remains, the Russians will have enough resources to conduct a conventional war in 2023 and possibly in 2024. If the sanctions pressure is increased, the aggressor state will face critical difficulties earlier,” he said.
