Russian forces leave Zmiinyi, island ablaze
On the night of June 30, Russian forces hastily evacuated from Zmiinyi island. Now there is a fire and explosions can be heard
The Operational Command South (OC South) shared the update on Facebook.
"During the night, as a result of a successful military operation with our missile and artillery units on Zmiiniy island, the enemy hastily evacuated the remnants of the garrison in two speedboats and probably left the island," the statement said.
Now there is a fire on the Zmiinyi island, explosions are heard. Details will be provided later.
The Russian mass media confirmed the withdrawal of its army from the island, calling the evacuation a 'step of good will'.
"Today, as a step of good will, the Russian military completed its tasks on Zmiinyi island and withdrew the garrison that was there," the statement said.
