Russian forces control majority of Severodonetsk, focus around Azot plant - British intelligence
Russian forces have gained control of most of Severodonetsk in the Luhansk region, except for the industrial zone, and plan to focus on it.
The British Defense Ministry shared its report on Twitter, citing data from the intelligence.
After more than a month of fighting, Russia has taken control of most of Severodonetsk, and Ukrainian forces are holding the industrial zone.
"Russia's urban warfare tactics, which are reliant on heavy use of artillery, have generated extensive collateral damage throughout the city. Elements of Ukrainian Armed Forces, along with several hundred civilians, are sheltering in underground bunkers in the Azot Chemical Plant, in the city's industrial zone," the report said.
British intelligence suggests that Russia will now focus on the Azot chemical plant.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces' units, along with several hundred civilians are in underground bunkers at a chemical plant in the city's industrial zone.
"It is highly unlikely that Russia anticipated such robust opposition, or such slow, attritional conflict during its original planning for the invasion," the report concluded.
