Russian air defense fires at HIMARS missiles, downs Russian aviation flagship - Russian media

The Russian Su-34 M is likely to have been shot down by a Russian air defense system in the Alchevsk area.

The Russian media reported the news.

"At the time of the destruction of the fighter-bomber, Ukrainian HIMARS surface-to-air missiles were firing at Alchevsk, and the Su-34 ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time in the zone of operation of the Russian air defense system for HIMARS missiles," the Military Informant report says.

The Insider notes that the crew ejected successfully and were evacuated.

The loss of the Russian fighter was recorded by Oryx, one of the most authoritative OSINT resources that collect data on the loss of military equipment during the war in Ukraine.

"Russian air defense mistakenly shot down its own Su-34 near Alchevsk, Luhansk region," the experts said in a report.

The Insider believes that the video with fragments of the crashed plane shows a rare Su-34M (M stands for 'modernized' - we are talking about a sample with an updated electronic system, high-precision weapons systems and a set of several hanging containers with intelligence equipment) with the aircraft number RF-95890  from the 277th Bombardment Aviation Regiment of the 303rd Mixed Aviation Division of the 11th Army of the Air Force and Air Defense of the Eastern Military District.
