Russia will not extradite MH17 convicts Girkin and Dubinsky to the Netherlands
Russians Igor Girkin and Sergey Dubinsky, sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in the case of the downed Malaysian Boeing-777, will not be extradited to the Netherlands.
Andrey Klishas, head of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, made a statement to Russian propaganda media.
"Russia will not extradite to the Netherlands its citizens sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in the case of the Boeing disaster in Ukraine. The court's decision will not cause any legal consequences," he said in a comment.
A source in the law enforcement agencies told Russian media Interfax the same version.
"The Constitution of the Russian Federation establishes a direct ban on the extradition of Russian citizens to foreign countries. That is why none of the convicts will be extradited," said the Interfax’s source.
Besides, he reminded, the Russian authorities do not recognize the decision of the Hague District Court, because the Russian side was removed from the investigation of the Malaysian Boeing crash over the Donbass region.
"The Russian side considers the court's verdict unfounded, as the preliminary investigation was conducted in a one-sided and biased manner. All the arguments of the Russian side were groundlessly rejected," he said.
