Russia will not dare support Iran militarily, expert says
In the war between Israel and Iran, Russia will act through political and diplomatic means and will not dare to provide direct military support to Tehran
Mykhailo Honchar, president of the Globalization Center Strategy XXI and an expert in international energy and security relations, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.
“In Russia, they clearly understand the limits of the U.S. capabilities, especially under the current administration of Donald Trump, which is engaged in pseudo-peacemaking maneuvers. Therefore, Russia will definitely not take serious military actions in the war between Israel and Iran. In case of an Iranian attack not only with drones but also with missiles, we have all seen the reaction of the U.S. and other countries in defense of Israel. Such an attack will certainly not be sudden. Therefore, Russia will act by political and diplomatic means, understanding that the game with Trump is still ongoing. Moreover, Trump has serious domestic problems. Against this background, Russia will certainly not dare to provide any military support to Iran but will play the diplomatic game,” Honchar explained.
According to the expert, Russia may push Iran toward a more radical response to Israel, as it is interested in a larger-scale conflict in the Middle East.
“Russia is interested in fanning the conflict in the Middle East, especially in the Persian Gulf. Russia may push Iran toward more radical actions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Iran also understands the limits of its activity,” he concluded.
- On the night of June 13, Israel launched a large-scale operation against Iran, carrying out preemptive strikes on its nuclear and military facilities.
