Russia will announce new wave of mobilization on January 15, planning to conscript another 500,000 soldiers
During the next wave of mobilization in January-February, Russian leadership may send another 500,000 troops to war in Ukraine in addition to the 300,000 mobilized last fall
Vadym Skibitskyi, Deputy Head of the Main Department of Military Intelligence of Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, stated this, The Guardian reports.
It is expected that the next mobilization wave will be announced on January 15, after winter holidays. Newly mobilized forces will be thrown into war for a series of Russian offensive operations in spring and summer in eastern and southern regions of Ukraine.
"We expect they will conduct offensives in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, as well as, possibly, in Zaporizhzhia, and defend themselves in Kherson region and Crimea. This is number of people they will need to perform such a task," he explained.
Russia needs about two months to gather military formations. However, any Russian success on the battlefield will depend on quality equipment and training.
Ukraine’s deputy military intelligence chief noted that much will depend on weapons supply from Western countries to Ukraine for training and equipping new reserve units of defense forces.
At the same time, Russia's defeat at this stage in the next 6-7 months will mean "collapse" of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Vadym Skibitskyi added.
