Zelenskyy "сancelled elections" and Ukrainians "will die due to US help": Recap of fake news and manipulations in global media on April 30
The Center for Countering Disinformation has released a compilation of anti-Ukrainian fake news and manipulations circulated globally on April 30
This was reported by Espreso TV.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, on April 30, one fake news story and one manipulation surfaced worldwide.
Fake news: Former CIA analyst Larry Johnson claimed in an interview with American columnist Andrew Napolitano that Zelenskyy canceled the elections, doing so amidst smearing opposition politicians, shutting down opposition press, and attacking the Orthodox Church.
Refutation: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not cancel elections in Ukraine. Elections are not held due to constitutional and legislative restrictions under martial law.
Manipulation: American journalist Danny Haiphong asserted that Ukrainians are dying because of Western aid to Ukraine, and they will die in much greater numbers. He also said that all this money does is perpetuate the war against Russia and is unlikely to significantly impact the situation.
Refutation: The journalist's statements mislead by echoing the Kremlin's propaganda narrative, suggesting that military aid to Ukraine prolongs the war, leading to more Ukrainian casualties. He also attempts to undermine the importance and effectiveness of the aid.
- On April 29, it was reported that Russian sources twisted President Zelenskyy's statement, spreading a fake claim that Kyiv is preparing to initiate negotiations with Russia in June.
