Zelenskyy: No sign Russia is preparing for ceasefire, only new offensives

He made the statement in his evening address.

“Today we had a report from intelligence and the military command on what Putin is counting on and what he is actually preparing for. This includes military preparations. He is certainly not preparing for a ceasefire or an end to the war. Putin is focused solely on presenting a meeting with America as his personal victory — and then continuing to act as before,” Zelenskyy said.

He sees no indication that the Russians have received signals to prepare for a post-war situation.

“On the contrary, they are redeploying their troops and forces in a way that would allow them to launch new offensive operations. If someone is preparing for peace, they don’t do this,” the president explained.

Zelenskyy added that Ukraine continues to inform its partners about the real situation on the battlefield, in diplomacy, and in Russia’s planning of further actions.

• Trump earlier said he would meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on August 15. When discussing what he would raise with Putin regarding conditions for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, Trump previously floated the idea of “some land swaps.”
