Ukraine establishes Unmanned Systems Forces within Armed Forces
On June 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree to establish the Unmanned Systems Forces within Ukraine's Armed Forces, as decided by the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC)
The decree, No. 382/2024, is available on the President's Office website.
Zelenskyy approved the NSDC's decision to create the Unmanned Systems Forces as a distinct branch within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Secretary of the NSDC, Oleksandr Lytvynenko, is responsible for overseeing the implementation. The decree takes effect immediately upon publication.
About the Unmanned Systems Forces
In February, President Zelenskyy announced the establishment of the Unmanned Systems Forces.
"This should yield specific results soon. This year is crucial in many aspects, especially on the battlefield," Zelenskyy said in a video address.
On May 7, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers supported the draft decree developed by the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff to establish the Unmanned Systems Forces.
The decision to create these forces is driven by the significant impact of unmanned systems on combat.
"Drones have proven effective on land, in the air, and at sea. Ukraine has changed the security situation in the Black Sea thanks to drones. Repelling ground assaults is largely due to drones. The large-scale destruction of occupiers and their equipment is also the work of drones," President Zelenskyy noted.
