Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant faces blackout risk again after Russian shelling
As a result of Russian shelling, the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has lost power from one of the two external transmission lines that connect the plant to the unified energy system of Ukraine
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
It is noted that the plant is currently receiving electricity from only one power line.
The Ministry of Energy emphasizes that the provision of external power to the station, which is necessary for its safe operation, is once again under threat. In the event of a complete disconnection from the power grid, another blackout at ZNPP could occur, posing a serious risk to radiation safety.
"Once the security situation permits, energy workers will do everything possible to restore power to the ZNPP as quickly as possible. The de-occupation of the station is a guarantee of its safe operation," stated Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko.
The Ministry of Energy reminded that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant has already experienced a complete blackout 8 times and has repeatedly been on the verge of a blackout.
On March 26, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported receiving information about the damage to the diesel reservoir at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
