Zaluzhnyi warns Russia’s war could last until 2034 without major shift in Ukraine’s defense strategy
Ukraine’s Ambassador to the UK and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, believes the war with Russia could drag on for another decade if Kyiv doesn’t change its defense strategy

He shared these thoughts in an interview with LB.ua.
“Ukraine has entered a new phase of the war, and if we fail to plan for long-term defense, the armed conflict could last for decades. If Ukraine doesn’t revise its defense strategy and approach to resource mobilization, the war could continue until 2034,” Zaluzhnyi said.
According to him, the Russian military has shifted its tactics and is now focused on exhausting both Ukrainian troops and civilians.
The former army commander summed it up by saying that many positions on the front line are no longer meant for breakthroughs — but for destruction.
- Russian forces are carrying out constant assaults in the Pokrovsk direction, despite heavy losses.
- Earlier, Zaluzhnyi stated that, given Russia’s resources, Ukraine should not place high hopes on returning to the 1991 or 2022 borders.
